The story of My One-Night Stand Is My Girlfriend’s Mom
The setup
A holiday in Miami ends the way holidays do, with a stranger and no plans to meet again. Three weeks later, Ryan goes to meet his girlfriend’s family for dinner. The door opens, and there is the stranger from Miami, now introduced as his girlfriend’s mother.
The rules of the evening are simple and impossible: nobody can know, her daughter must not find out and both of them have to behave like strangers for a whole dinner.
What to expect
Five short episodes that stay close to one night and one house, so the suspense runs on the clock rather than on the plot. The best scenes are the ones where two people speak in perfectly ordinary sentences while saying something else entirely.
Expect a lot of eye contact across a table, a few near-discoveries and a slow-moving sense that the evening can only end badly.
A closer look
The premise sounds like a joke, but the series plays it as a thriller. Both characters know exactly what has happened, and both of them have to behave as if they do not. Each time the daughter looks at one of them, the other has to react. It is a series about the physical effort of keeping a straight face.
The cast
The mother is played by the AI twin of Candy Creator Asa Akira. The boyfriend and daughter are AI-generated characters.
Who it suits
People who like the ‘worst possible coincidence’ premise and a story that lives or dies on one tense dinner.
