The setup

On the sand of a members-only beach club, the owner’s nephew needs rescuing from the waves, and lifeguard Sophie is the one who does it. It is a small rescue with a long consequence: the young man is now in her debt, and the club is a place where everybody notices everything.

The summer that follows is built around lessons. Some are about swimming, some about the club’s unspoken rules and some about how far a friendship between a lifeguard and the owner’s family can reasonably go.
